The Many Ways of Being Human

8.12

Amazonia

In an air-conditioned hall in Brasília, an old Kayapó man in a macaw-feather crown, a wooden disc set in his lower lip, speaks against a dam on the Xingu, while a young man in the third row films the room instead of the speaker. The chapter moves on to the Kayapó, Yanomami, and Pirahã, and to a forest that was partly built by people.
