In a courtyard in Agadez, a man rewraps his long blue tagelmust across his mouth and keeps it up through the whole meal, while his wife sits beside him with her face uncovered, talking more than he does. Among the Tuareg the veil belongs to the man, and it sets social distance in a desert where there are no walls.
