Nubia and Kush

In the sand of Sudan stand steep pyramids, by the usual counts roughly twice as many as in Egypt, many with their tops sheared off by an Italian treasure hunter in 1834. Kush, a kingdom wedged into a narrow stretch of the Nile, chose kings by oracle, ruled Egypt under Piye, and wrote a script we can read but barely understand.
