The Haudenosaunee

A long belt of white shell beads carries two purple rows that never touch: a canoe and a sailing ship on the same river, neither steering the other. It states that two peoples will stay separate and still keep peace. From this Haudenosaunee belt, the chapter moves to the longhouse, the clan mothers, and a council that decides only by agreement.
